Senior leadership from BP and Enquest visit St Fergus as ESP project progresses

North Sea Midstream Partners (NSMP) recently welcomed senior leaders from BP and Enquest to the St Fergus Gas Terminal (SFGT) on Scotland’s north-east coast. The visit marks another key milestone in the ongoing collaboration between NSMP, BP and Enquest on the East of Shetland Pipeline System (EoSPS) to SIRGE crossover pipeline (“ESP”) Project.

The ESP Project is a critical new link in the UK’s energy network, involving the construction of a new-build pipeline connecting the Sullom Voe Terminal on Shetland with the northern end of the NSMP-operated SIRGE pipeline. Once complete, the ESP will enable gas arriving from West of Shetland at Sullom Voe to flow through SIRGE and into the FUKA Pipeline before arriving at the NSMP-owned St Fergus Gas Terminal.

The visit offered BP and Enquest leadership a valuable opportunity to observe operations at St Fergus, where gas transported via the ESP will ultimately be processed before entering the UK’s National Transmission System. From there, the gas will support both domestic and industrial consumption across the country.

During the visit, our guests were able to experience first-hand the complex operations of this strategically important asset and its vital role at the heart of the UK’s energy infrastructure. With the capacity to securely process over a quarter of the UK’s 26% of gas supply, SFGT is a cornerstone of national energy resilience.

The ESP will be owned by a BP-led joint venture and operated by Enquest. As operator of the SIRGE and FUKA systems NSMP will play a key role in transporting and processing gas arriving from the ESP before redelivery at St Fergus.

Once operational, the ESP will significantly improve flexibility and resilience in the UK’s gas transportation network. By enhancing interconnectivity and unlocking new sources of supply, it will contribute directly to the UK’s long-term energy security and the transition to a more diversified energy mix.

As part of North Sea Midstream Partners’ ongoing commitment to maintaining security of gas supplies in Europe, we work closely with all our customers and operating partners to ensure that critical infrastructure like SFGT continues to perform safely, reliably, and efficiently.

The visit to St Fergus reinforced the strong and constructive partnership between NSMP and its upstream counterparts. We are proud to play a key role in delivering safe, secure, and sustainable energy to the UK and European markets.

We thank our partners from BP and Enquest for their ongoing collaboration on the ESP Project and look forward to continued progress as we work together to strengthen the UK’s energy infrastructure.
